SNC-LAVALIN IN EUROPE AND ATEL JOIN FORCES
Chovet Engineering, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SNC-Lavalin, in partnership with CDF Ingénierie, was just awarded an owner-support contract by the Swiss energy group, Atel, for the permitting phase of a project to build a gas-fired, combined-cycle power plant in Bayet in Allier. A €240 million investment is planned for this facility.
Basic and detailed engineering, as well as permitting, are underway and will continue until the end of the year. Construction will begin in 2008.
“SNC-Lavalin in Europe’s expertise in the fields of general building and infrastructure engineering, as well as industrial process engineering, was instrumental in the Swiss group’s selection,” said Georges Sontag, Vice-President, Operations, SNC-Lavalin S.A.S. in Europe. “The contract further strengthens SNC-Lavalin in Europe’s position as a major engineering player in the energy sector.”
The Bayet Power Plant will be the Swiss company’s first power generation facility in France, and will have a generation capacity of 420 MW. It is expected to produce its first kilowatt-hours in January 2010.
