Hydro Brilliant Expansion Project

SNC-Lavalin successfully designed, constructed and commissioned the Brilliant Expansion Project (BEP), a 120 MW hydropower plant on the Kootenay River in British Columbia, while ensuring adherence to an Environmental Management Plan. Sustainability considerations were a keystone in the conception, design and construction of the project. The key environmental sustainability features of the project included a reduced footprint and visual impact, advances in sturgeon research, reduced fish mortality, maintained Brilliant Hole and improved fish habitat.

Chute-à-Caron Rehabilitation Project

Constructed between the years 1926 and 1931, the Chute-à-Caron hydroelectric development is located on the Saguenay River, 40 km downstream from St-Jean Lake, in Quebec. It is part of the Shipshaw Complex which also comprises the Shipshaw power station, located 2.5 km downstream. The project involved rehabilitating the concrete dams and other structures of the Chute-a-Caron development, related to civil, mechanical and electrical works to ensure their performance for at least another 30 years. It also included a reevaluation of the stability of all concrete structures. The mandate also included an evaluation of the condition of the hydraulic passages of the four turbine-generator units. The electrical and mechanical components of the spillway gate gantry crane were evaluated and inspected. Finally, an evaluation of the dam monitoring system was also part of the mandate. Bruce Power Nuclear Plant

We have two projects underway at Bruce Power's nuclear plant in Ontario The first is a plant refurbishment project, and the second is to replace sixteen 100 tonne steam generators. For the second mandate, we developed a new steam generator removal process that reduces costs and removal/replacement time. Client: Bruce Power

Skikda Combined Cycle Power Plant

Our team on the Skikda thermal project in Algeria overcame several challenges to meet an urgent power provision deadline, including a demanding schedule, severe space constraints and 40 straight days of rain that delayed work by a full month. Nonetheless, they met their deadline to the client's satisfaction with no lost time incidents. Client: Shariket Kahraba Skikda SKS SPA

Three Sisters Underground Conversion

At the Three Sisters Mountain Village Resort in Canada's Rocky Mountains, we converted two overhead transmission lines to underground high-voltage cable encased in concrete duct banks. Construction challenges included abandoned shallow mineshafts, sinkholes and special wildlife precautions. Client: Three Sisters Mountain Village
